Serving Alabama Since 2011
For nearly 15 years, CALA (Centro de Acceso para Latinos de Alabama) has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Latine communities across Alabama. Originally established under AIDS Alabama, CALA provided HIV prevention, early intervention, and linguistic services for people living with HIV. In 2025, CALA began a new chapter as a nonprofit organization, expanding its impact through LGBTQIA+ programs, leadership and volunteer opportunities, health education, emergency assistance, immigration support, and advocacy. Today, CALA works to reduce barriers, promote health equity, and empower immigrant and underserved communities to thrive.

March 2026:
Somos Nosotras was created as a safe space for women living with HIV to share, heal, grow, and discuss specific topics that impact their lives.
April 2026:
A community dinner to share information about U=U, answer questions, and strengthen HIV knowledge in a welcoming and trusted space.

We received training through a partnership with UAB 1917 to become certified to perform rapid HIV testing, volunteer in community health programs, and participate in community health outreach and HIV prevention activities.

A safe space to learn about available resources, receive guidance, and strengthen a support network for people facing substance use-related challenges.

Mochilón- Back to School Health Fair
We had an incredible day celebrating the back-to-school season alongside more than 800 members of our community!
CALA is committed to promoting access to education and healthcare for our community.
As part of the event, we also provided free HIV testing and health screenings, connecting our community with important health resources and services.

It was a time to reconnect, reflect on our journey, share our stories, open our hearts, and celebrate the commitment of our volunteers to our community.

At CALA, we focus on education, health and wellbeing, supportive services, volunteer and leadership opportunities, LGBTQ programs, and comprehensive HIV services including testing, treatment, and case management. We also provide emergency assistance, immigration financial assistance, HIV testing, and eye exams.
